Summary

The 5 Days Marangu Route is the shortest and most established route to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. Known as the Coca-Cola Route, it is the only route offering hut accommodation instead of camping.

The 5 Days Marangu Route is one of the most famous ways to climb Mount Kilimanjaro and has welcomed thousands of climbers from around the world. Beginning at Marangu Gate on the southeastern side of the mountain, the trail follows a well-maintained path through lush rainforest filled with towering trees, colorful birds, and playful monkeys before reaching the open moorlands and alpine desert. Unlike all other Kilimanjaro routes, Marangu offers overnight accommodation in permanent mountain huts, making it especially appealing for climbers who prefer not to camp. Although the route follows the same trail up and down the mountain and offers less time for acclimatization than longer itineraries, it remains a rewarding adventure for fit trekkers. The highlight is the overnight ascent to Uhuru Peak, where climbers are rewarded with breathtaking sunrise views from the highest point in Africa. Supported by experienced mountain guides, cooks, and porters, the 5 Days Marangu Route provides a memorable Kilimanjaro experience combining comfort, adventure, and the achievement of standing at 5,895 meters above sea level.
